The Journey Continues

November 1, 20184 Comments

Everyone always tells you that adjusting to life post trail can be difficult. Be aware they say, don’t get caught off guard, and understand that your journey doesn’t have to come to an end at the terminus. I knew that going into the hike I would have the time of my life. I would live … Continue reading The Journey Continues

Between every two pine trees there is a door leading to a new way of life. -John Muir ⬖ I couldn’t have said it any better. 👌🏻
It’s snowing outside here in New England today and all I can think about are those sunny mornings on the trail. The morning routine was never altered: Wake up, get dressed (if I didn’t already sleep in my hiking clothes), pack up camp, brush teeth, braid hair, eat breakfast, throw on pack, start walking. Craving that simple life again 🙋🏼‍♀️
...naturalistic outdoor environments in general remain some of the only places where we engage all five senses, and thus, by definition, are fully, physically alive. It is where our savanna-bred brains are, to borrow from John Muir, “home,” whether we consciously know it or not. -Florence Williams, The Nature Fix . Can any thru-hikers guess where this was taken? 😉
First go at being a Grounds Keeper and picked up almost 3 lb of trash on the Appalachian Trail ♻️ Word of advice... if you’re going to use a waste bag for your dog, pack it out please! 🤦🏼‍♀️ @thegroundskeepers
Some views just stop us in our tracks 😳🏔 Ever since the trail, I’ve been trying to hone in on what’s important to me, like being more conscious about waste. I’ll be hiking as a @granitegear Grounds Keeper this year to clean up our beautiful trails! If you find yourself standing in front of trash on the ground when you’re hiking, don’t be afraid to pick it up. Everyone assumes it’s not their problem, and while it shouldn’t be there in the first place, remember that progress won’t happen if no one steps up to take the first step. 🙋🏼‍♀️♻️ @thegroundskeepers
Turning the corner and seeing trail magic always turned the worst of days upside down. The smallest thing, like a soda sitting next to a tree, means the world to those on trail. I can’t wait to provide some trail magic this year. It might not be on the PCT, but there are plenty of long-distance trails around!
2018 has been quite the year. Here’s to doing more things that are uncomfortable at the start but unbelievably rewarding in the end. 🙌🏻 [This shot was captured as we were hitchhiking toward Portland to try and make it to Trail Days]
I remember the day we pushed to the Northern Terminus. We were dropped off at Harts Pass the day before, after almost a month off trail, and opted to hike the additional miles North in order to tag the border and then start making our way South through Washington. Choosing to flip wasn’t an easy choice but the weather window was against us. We couldn’t have been happier though about the beautiful weather in August and all of the SoBo friends we had the chance to meet.
The best Christmas present ever!
So great to see these ladies this weekend and welcome @kristyne.hall’s baby boy! 😊
Super excited to be getting back into climbing again! I can’t complain about 60 ft walls 😍
Already missing that simple life. I remember the approach to Sonora Pass like it was yesterday. The wind was at full force but the view was simply stunning and marked the end of the Sierra for us.
I miss the trail but real life has proven to be a nice change so far. 🤗 I captured my initial reflection about time on the trail in my new blog post! [Link in bio]
Life on trail was extremely fun, but not always easy. The long miles, the lack of comforts, and the pure exposure to the elements can really test you. Thank you @omealsus for your consistent support through this journey. Sometimes a hot, nutritious meal can be just what you need to lift your spirits and keep you going. 🤗
Being just days away from finishing the trail is surreal. It has been a long journey but rewarding in every possible way. ❤️
